Based on a series of artworks by Faye Toogood, Doodles sees a collection of hand-knotted rugs born in collaboration with cc-tapis. Emphasising texture, organic forms and a sense of playfulness, the collection is now available through Loom Rugs.

Adding to an already impressive resume, Faye Toogood’s array of influential and iconic contemporary industrial, furniture, lighting, fashion, interiors and custom sculpture have carved her place as a significant contributor to current design thinking. Her work is characterised by an organic, textured and retrained approach, where each space, each object, each piece she touches has a sense of individuality and an imbedded sense of curiosity. Doodles is created in collaboration with cc-tapis and produces a collection of handmade and hand-knotted rugs that speak to Faye’s signature style.

The collection is born from the seed of her own ‘doodles’, from which a series of artworks produced specifically for the collaboration were created. The approach is influenced by a painterly style, where abstract elements come together in a freeness of thought on the canvas. As a reflection of the artist-designer’s preoccupation with ‘tinkering’ and existing in a state of whimsy, the resulting artworks (and subsequent rug collection) are not contained within the traditional boundaries. The free-flowing and expressive nature of the line work and approach to colour offers a unique aesthetic sensibility, one imbued with a dreamlike resonance.

Available through Loom Rugs, the collaboration with cc-tapis has enabled the artwork of Doodles to come to life. Through the exquisite and intricately curious use of colour, the resulting shapes and lack of formality allow each of the pieces to become artwork in themselves. As part of a recent exhibition in Milan, the collection was showcased against textural and soft rendered walls and dotted with the Roly Poly chair, also designed by Faye Toogood, for good measure. The original artworks were also on display, allowing for an engagement with the collection’s point of inception.

Doodles by Faye Toogood and cc-tapis allows for a unique expression of self, offering a series of soft and dreamlike textural hand-knotted rugs to add interest and an architectural approach to any interiors.

Having previously collaborated with clients such as Alexander McQueen, Tom Dixon and Comme des Garcons, Faye Toogood’s approach has always remained true to her curious and inquisitive dissection of form and space. Living and working in London, she collaborates with her sister on their fashion label, extending her capabilities and interest in design as a means of self-expression. Just as how one dresses reflects one’s values and aesthetic approach, the way in which one chooses to express oneself through how they live offers insight into personality.
